Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is the 8th Governor of Kebbi State, having assumed office on May 29, 2015. The Governor has a lifelong commitment to public service and the proven leadership skills to make government work for the people of the state.
As Governor
His Excellency, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is the Executive Governor of Kebbi State. Prior to his election in May 2015, he represented Kebbi Central at the Senate. Under the leadership of his Excellency, the Kebbi State government entered into a partnership with the Lagos State government on the establishment of a commodity value chain that will give a quantum leap to food processing, production and distribution. This partnership, which is the first of its kind in the history of the Nigerian agricultural sector, is aimed at bringing about national food sufficiency and food security.
Political Career
He was elected Senator for the Kebbi Central constituency of Kebbi State, Nigeria in a by-election after Senator Adamu Aliero was appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in December 2008. He ran successfully for reelection in the April 2011 national elections under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP). He however defected from the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in 2014 and joined the All Progressive Congress. He thereafter became the flagbearer of the All Progressive Congress(APC) after winning the Party's Gubernatorial primaries. In Nigeria's 2015 general elections, he contested for the Governorship seat in Kebbi State and won under the platform of the APC.
Early Career and Education
His Excellency had his University Education at Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto State where he obtained his BSc. In Economics. He proceeded to the University of Jos, Plateau State where he had his Masters in Economics. He thereafter went to Columbia University where he obtained his M.A in International Affairs.
